Cheng Ho Teng Temple

If one visits Melaka, the Cheng Ho Teng Temple in Temple Street should never be missed! Built in 1645, it is the oldest Chinese temple in Malaysia. This temple is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy, Guan Yin. The Goddess of Mercy is well-known for her compassion.

Recent repair and restoration work have given the temple a new look. Look at the ornate carving and rich lacquer woodwork of the main shrine hall. The fine workmanship is evident here. It was said that the materials used for building this temple was shipped all the way from mainland China.

During my visit there last Sat, a monk was doing a prayer at the altar for a family.

Quite incredible and ornate temple. The workmanship, craft and detailing is fascinating.

Beautifully crafter, love these and I rather like the 'earthy' temples that are more somber.

"Use your first smile, your first form of generosity, of love, of kindness—use it at home; start at home. And if there is something left over—if … your plate is just full of abundance of patience and goodness and smiles and joy, then by all means, you should go … and offer that to others. But we must begin at home." by Dr Robin Smith
