Steamboat - A Family Gathering

My family will usually celebrate a joyful occasion by having a steamboat meal at home. We had it during Chinese New Year, birthdays and anytime when we want to have a celebration!
Steamboat is not only easy to prepare but it is also fun to have everyone sitting or standing around the table and dipping our food into a pot of boiling broth or in this photo, peanut sauce ala Melaka Lok-Lok style. We placed the food on skewers and the children just picked their favourites and placed the skewers into the pot. We chat away as we wait for our food to cook.

The children also love to cook their own food. They get to pick their favourite items, e.g. fishballs and prawns. Even the youngest one, who is only 4 years old, is able to do her own cooking!

This 31 August, Malaysia is going to celebrate its 52nd National Day. It's going to be a long weekend and we are all heading home to Melaka for another steamboat gathering with my family.

My World Tuesday has returned. Check out the portal to find out what others around the world are posting!

"Steamboat" looks like a fun, delicious way to enjoy a meal together as a family! Wish I were there to pick and cook my own, too! Great family snap!

How great that the little ones pick what they like and cook it. I'm hungry!

What a treat? I love how food can bring people together.

What a lot of food, you must have spent a lot of time preparing for it , especially putting it through the satay sticks. Is that green leaves Kangkong. How did you string them together?

You use Tom Yum soup as base?

I also posted on it. http://annkschin.blogspot.com/2009/07/fridayshoot-out-outdoor-food-steam-boat.html

It was my Filipino friend's modern steam boat. I like my mum's old fashion one best.

Came to you via Skywatch.

Cheers,

what style is Lok Lok? Meleka Nyonga? This is the first time I heard of it, though I lived in Singapore 16 years, and visited a few times. Good memories. Like the Portuguese Village. My friend has her house, the boundary is Straits of Malacca.

I am allergic to peanuts, guess if I was a kid in Meleka, I would be a very disappopinted kid as I can't have LOK LOK.

But we must begin at home." by Dr Robin Smith
