Sekinchan - River Mouth

At the river mouth of Sekinchan, that's where you will have the fishermen boats. These fishermen supplies seafood to the local restaurants here. Sekinchan is not only famous as the rice bowl of Selangor state, it is also the place to go for delicious and fresh seafood!

Dried Seafood

During our trip to Sekinchan last weekend, we stopped by Kuala Selangor to shop for local products. Here's one of the dried seafood that was on sale, i.e. dried prawns. It is widely used to cook delicious dried prawns sambal or stir fry with vegetables. And they don't come cheaply.

Happy Wesak Day

Today is Wesak Day and I am glad to be back in my hometown, Melaka where I get to spend today visiting Seck Kia Eenh's temple with my family. There was a pindapata (offering of food) to monks this morning. Yesterday evening, we joined the procession of beautiful coloured floats (like the one in the photo here) from Seck Kia Eenh Temple through the streets of Melaka. The children even had the chance to bath baby Buddha at a temple near our house just now.

I hope my family will always receive the blessings of Lord Buddha.

Paddy Field in Sekinchan

A beautiful day to be outdoor for photo shoot. It's my 2nd trip to Sekinchan and this time we are lucky to have rolling clouds and ripening paddy. And of course, a group of photography friends who are patient to drive around, stopping here and there for some shooting, shopping and eating. What a great way to spend a Sunday!

Family Fishing Outing

With a few photography friends from USJ.com Forum, we took a drive to Sekinchan (the paddy bowl of Selangor) to capture photos of ripening paddy field. Nearing the end of our outing, we came to this beautiful wooden bridge across a narrow creek. While standing on the bridge, I saw this family having a lovely way of spending their Sunday afternoon together, fishing under this big tree. It is such a heart-warming scene to see a family spending valuable time together in the outdoor. With the reflection in the water, I think this scene would be a picturesque composition that will leave a lasting imprint in my mind.

Pirates Ferris Wheel

A beautiful view of the Ferris Wheel at an amusement park that also provide a pirate ship ride. This was taken on a Sunday morning when my nieces, nephews and I went for a morning discovery stroll along Melaka River. It's the best time to walk along the river as it was cool and many tourists are not out roaming yet.

Boy & Iguana

This boy was so brave to allow the iguana to be placed on his shoulder for a photo shoot in Melaka's Dutch Square. I shuddered while looking on. I only allow the iguana to sit on my lap (I was wearing a long pants then) without me touching its skin.

Would you dare to put this iguana on your shoulder? Or have a snake placed like a scarf around your vulnerable neck?? Hee...hee...wanna share your thoughts on this?

Laos - New vs Old

This photo of Laos was taken by my friend, Nicole, when she was there this year. It shows a great contrast between the old Laos (across the river) and the modern Laos (a hotel pool).

Baby Monkey in Kuala Selangor

A friend took this photo of a baby monkey during her visit to Kuala Selangor's Bukit Malawati. I asked her permission to share this photo. The baby looks so vulnerable and tiny. It makes me want to reach out to care for it. And don't you think the colour of its fur looks amazing? I have never seen a monkey of such colour. Have you?

Wet Market in SS15

This is one of the vegetable stalls in our Subang Jaya SS15 wet market. This is the market that I frequent to buy my groceries or fresh ingredients for my cooking. This stall is one that I frequent regularly as the lady vendor with the pink hair scarf sells many fresh herbs such as basil, turmeric leaves, kaffir lime leaves, curry leaves, laksa leaf (daun kesum) and many others.

What are the herbs that you usually use in your cooking? Do you plant them? Or get them from the supermarket/wet market/farmer's market?

Pink Amaryllis

My Amaryllis plant produced 4 beautiful white blooms with streaks of red and pink recently. They lasted for over 3 weeks with each flower blooming after one another. Those blooms bring me lotsa joy and satisfaction as I check on them every morning.

Gardening has such a calming effect on me! What do you do to calm yourself?

Kopi Tiam

A kopi tiam or coffee shop can be found in many nook and corners of Malaysia. It is in this kind of traditional coffee shop that I can find a cup of kopi-O served with freshly toasted bread with butter & kaya and the flavour of olden days! This is what I can't find in Starbucks or Coffee Beans or one of those local franchise coffee shops that have been mushrooming everywhere in recent years.

A Dilapidated House

This photo is inspired by a fellow photographer friend, Paul, from our community forum ~ USJ.com. He has posted some photos of abandoned building and there is a beautiful aspects to his photos. So when I saw this building in Heeren Street, I just gotta take some photo. This building and the others on the same street, in their glory days, used to be occupied by the rich Nyonya and Baba of Melaka. Now, many of them have moved out from this area. The structure of houses here are not allowed to be pulled down as they are part of the goverment effort to protect this heritage street.
"Use your first smile, your first form of generosity, of love, of kindness—use it at home; start at home. And if there is something left over—if … your plate is just full of abundance of patience and goodness and smiles and joy, then by all means, you should go … and offer that to others. But we must begin at home." by Dr Robin Smith
