Afternon Drizzle

Danny Santos's street photographs of rainy days on Singapore's Orchard Road have been an inspiration to me.  Never thought it would be fun to be outdoor on rainy days.  But Danny photos, such as Good Times in Bad Weather makes me happily stay outdoor with my camera.

I had the opportunity yesterday when it drizzled after Merdeka Walk with Rakan KL. My friends and I were walking towards Madras Lane for lunch and I happily took out my camera and clicked away.  In the past, I would keep my camera in my bag for fear of getting it wet.  Thanks to Danny that my opinion of shooting in bad weather has changed!  Now I am just having good times in bad weather!  Yyayyy!

I just realized that yesterday marked the 5th Anniversary of Subang Jaya Daily Photo.  This blog was started on 6 Nov 2007.  Wow, I have come a long way with this blog.  It's been a bad habit of mine to start a project and to abandon it mid-way.  Sigh!!! Call it lack of commitment, lack of determination, impatient or ....I don't know.  But I am glad that I stayed on with this blog. 5 years is a long milestone for me.  Hope to see  I continue to keep this blog on-going as long as possible!!  Thanks for the kind support of those who visit often and left comments for me.  A heartfelt thanks to all of you.

Convocation 2012

Attended a friend's convocation today and I was delighted to see this guy receiving an adorable, huge bear.  His friends were putting the big bear over his shoulders for a photo session.  I wished I had gotten my friend a big bear too. So cute!

At the Mahjong Centre

After the Pink Charity Run, my friends and I went searching for breakfast at Pandamaran, Klang.  While walking in the New Village of Pandamaran, we stumbled across a mahjong centre.  It's my first time seeing a mahjong centre and I eagerly went to approach the elderly people inside. Asking around if they would allow me to take their photos. There were a bit hesitant, worried that I might be a journalist and would feature their photos in the local paper, with their faces splashed across the headline!  Ha ha...paying mahjong is a form of gambling and it is considered illegal.  Police would raid this place if they read about it.  With my smile and sincerity, I managed to convince these folks that I was just trying to test my new camera.  Fortunately, I managed to get several of them to smile for me.  Thanks everyone. I had a good time visiting this centre.

The Barber

Apart from buildings, lives in Petaling Street is just as interesting.  One can still see many old stuffs here.
Here's one example, a barber in action.  This barber has been photographed too often that he is now demanding a fee for any photo taken.  Ahem, I snapped this shot quickly when he was in deep focus at his task so I got away from paying him.  I tried to take his photo in the past but got scolded and shoo-ed away by him.  This time around, I toed around him quietly and managed to capture a shot.  Ha ha...I always love a challenge!

At the zebra crossing

It's fun to watch people waiting at the zebra crossing.  Have you tried doing it?  My favourite place to do this is at the zebra crossing in front of Pavillion mall.  There is enough space for me to just stand by the side, without being obvious and just enjoy the scene with my camera.

Uncle at Jonker Walk

I love visiting Danny Santos's blog and enjoy his street photography adventures that happened frequently on Orchard Street, Singapore.  Danny's blog was featured in Eric Kim's (also a street photographer) blog.

Both Danny's & Eric's photos inspire me to approach this Uncle and ask his permission to take a photo of him when I was in Jonker Walk, Melaka last weekend.  He happily smiled for me.  I had a fun time using my friend's Canon EOS 350D camera to roam along Jonker Walk with my two little nieces. I loaned the camera to photograph my newborn niece.  Didn't want to miss capturing the first few days of arrival.

My Fujifilm Finepix S6500fd is now in the workshop.  Got a call from Fujifilm's technician today.  My camera lens need a replacement.  That would cost me RM450.  Ouch! That really hurt. Considering the camera is a good one and gave a lot of good shots for my job, I decided to go for the repair. At the same time, I have my heart on a Canon EOS 60D.  Should I get it?  Mmmm........that will burn a big hole in my pocket.  Read some reviews and most of them gave positive remarks about this camera.  Mmmm........tempting, very tempting.............

Today is the eve of Malaysia's 55th National Day celebration.  There are plans made for 'Janji Demokrasi' gatherings for public to seek electoral reform from our government.  I hope the police will not act violently and assault public who join the gathering tonight, like what they did during Bersih 3.0.  The main one in the city will be held in Dataran Merdeka.  Personally, I have not felt patriotic in the past 3 years. I have not bothered to fly our Malaysian flag. Our government has not done much to garner support from me.  Dirty news of corruption, cronyism, injustice, high crime rates have been making headlines in our local dailies.  What have our current government done to improve on situation?  And our past Prime Minister has the cheek to make a remark "better the devil you know (the ruling party) than the angel you don't (the opposition) when it comes to casting our votes in the upcoming election. Sigh....Malaysia, where are you heading?  Would I still be smiling happily like this Uncle in today's photo if I do not stand up for my beliefs & rights?

Tourists

It's interesting to sit by the lake of KLCC and just watch the people, especially tourists, enjoying photo session in front of the Petronas Twin Tower.  I caught this group of ladies posing for a photo session recently.

My work took me to KLCC again today.  The weather was not very warm.  I spent the remaining time I had, sitting on the steps that lead to the Symphony Lake, watching people with my lens!

Caught this Middle-Eastern female tourist taking a shot of the lake.  We have many tourists from Middle-East now who are visiting Malaysia to escape the heat of the summer in their countries.

Old Bugs

"Old Bugs Never Die" - This is so true. There were so many old restored Bugs
and they look as good as new cars! Long live Bugs!

Ban Chean Kuih Seller

Ban Chean Kuih is a pancake folded into half and stuffed with grounded peanuts, sugar, butter and in the case of Penang, sliced bananas. It is common to see vendor on the street selling it in a pushcart. I love the Ban Chean Kuih in Penang for the bananas added into it. This is not available in Subang Jaya or Klang Valley.

Bridal Couple at Botanical Garden

We were taking a stroll at the Penang Botanical Garden when we crossed paths with these couples in bridal costume. They were with a photographer and it seemed like they were having an outdoor photo shoot there. The weather in Penang was cool and it was the raining season then. If not, we would see these couples would be drenched in sweat. And instead of smiles, we may be seeing frowns! Have you had your wedding photos taken at the outdoor? How did it feel? Was it fun?

The 'Kueh Chap' Man

'Kueh Chap' is a famous Teow Chew (those whose ancestors hailed from Chaoshan, eastern Gangdong, China) delicacy comprises of noodle made of rice flour, served with soya sauce based soup, topped with pork meat and offal. It is yummy! 'Kueh Chap' can be found in places where many Teow Chew settles down e.g. Penang, Johor Bahru, Singapore, Hadyai & Bangkok in Thailand. I always try to eat it when I am in these places as one can hardly find 'Kueh Chap' being sold in Subang Jaya.
