A tsunami alert was sent out to me this evening by a friend after 2 earthquakes measuring over 8.6 and 8.2 magnitude took place in the western coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. The memory of the last tsunami in this region that happened in 2004 is still raw in everyone's mind. That was the first time I was introduced to the devastation that a tsunami can bring. That tsunami killed over 200,000 people in regions neighbouring the Hindi Ocean, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand. The worst hit was Aceh, Indonesia where over 170,000 people were killed.
And who can forget the 11 March 2011 tsunami that strucked Japan and triggered the world's worst nuclear disaster? Exactly a year and a month later, another tsunami is threatening this corner of the world. I am praying hard that we won't see another devastation brought about by tsunami or earthquake.
