Morning Om at the Park

A beautiful surrounding combined with a surreal chant of Om by the meditators across the pond is truly a calming sight on a Sunday morning. This is a scene that I captured at Melaka's Tun Fatimah Stadium last Sunday.

Wishing all of you a calm and restful Sunday.

Serenity

The Serenity Prayer
===================
God, grant me the serenity to
Accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
and the Wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time
Enjoying one moment at a time
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is and not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him forever in the next.

Putrajaya Bridge

This is one of the many beautiful bridges in Putrajaya. The others have more beautiful structure. We can see them from afar but we didn't know how to reach them. As it was past dinner time and we were all hungry, we gave up looking for the other more beautiful bridges. So, I hope you like this.

Happy Labour Day tomorrow!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Added on 15 Jan 2009: This is the Seri Perdana Bridge, viewed from the Putrajaya Lake Club.

According to the Perbadanan Putrajaya official portal, this bridge is part of the protocol route, the 370m long Jambatan Seri Perdana is built across the lake of Putrajaya. The design is Islamic with 8 rest areas for visitors to enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding lake area that includes the Prime Minister's Office and Masjid Putra.

The bridge is made up of 7 central spans of 75m and 2 end spans of 55m. There are two separate carriageways over a two twin cell box girder. In the cross section, the overall width between extreme ends of two box girder is 23m. The foot path is flanked by railing and the roads median is lined by decorative street-lighting.

Putrajaya Mosque

Putrajaya is the new federal administrative centre for Malaysia. It is about 20 mins drive from Subang Jaya. We took a drive there to enjoy the beautiful structures of the new government office buildings, Prime Minister residence and Sultan palace. This photo shows a distinctive landmark in Putrajaya, located beside the lake, i.e. the Putra Mosque.

Found on a website introducing Putra Mosque:

"Incorporating Malaysian, Persian and Arab-Islamic architectural designs, the main entrance to the mosque is fashioned in the likeness of public building gates in Muslim Persia. Its 116-metre minaret is influenced by the design of the Sheikh Omar mosque in Baghdad, while the basement wall of the mosque resembles that of the King Hassan mosque in Casablanca, Morocco.

The mosque is constructed in rose-tinted granite which gives its desert-pink hue that offsets the cengal woodwork on doors, windows and panels."

Walking Tall 2008

My friends and I had a great time waking up early this morning to drive to Lake Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur to join the 3-km Walking Tall, a charity event organized to support Cervical Cancer Awareness effort by the Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society of Malaysia. It's also an event organized in conjunction with this year's International Women Day celebration, which fell on 3rd March.

Apart from the walk, there was an exhibition held together with health check. From the exhibition, we learnt that cervical cancer is a burden affecting many women in the world. Every year about 500,000 new cases of cervical cancer occur, of which approximately 270,000 will lead to death. Vaccination and Pap Smear are two steps that one can take for prevention from this cancer.

In addition to gaining new insight of this illness, we had the chance to enjoy the early morning fresh air and the beautiful lake Titiwangsa that came with the panoramic view of KL skyline! In fact, you can see the Eye of Malaysia (the equivalent of London Eye and Singapore Flyer) in one of the photos.

Theme Day: Apr 08 - Water

Time flies and it's Theme Day again!! The theme for today is Water.

Water has brought lotsa joy to us in many ways! And of course many woes too. But I only want to be reminded of the fun I had with water on today, which is also April Fool's Day. I recall how much fun I had splashing in the pool when I was learning how to swim. These children remind me of those days! Not only did they had fun with the water, they also had each other to hold on to as they tread through the water when the tide rose.

Can you recall to mind the friend who was there for you when you were going through a high tide in your life? If yes, why not give this person a call today and thank him/her for being there at that very moment?

Wish you have a fabulous April Fool's Day! And Happy Theme Day!

There are currently 178 blogs participating in this theme day. Do pop by to visit their "Water" photos!

"Use your first smile, your first form of generosity, of love, of kindness—use it at home; start at home. And if there is something left over—if … your plate is just full of abundance of patience and goodness and smiles and joy, then by all means, you should go … and offer that to others. But we must begin at home." by Dr Robin Smith
