Last weekend I was back in my hometown, Melaka, for my eldest aunt's funeral. She passed away at the age of 80. If not for the stomach cancer that she was having, I believe my aunt would live to a very old age.
Her wake and funeral was a reunion for the big family and friends. Relatives whom we have not met for over 20 years came from afar to gather in memory of my aunt. Children who have not been on good terms came together in good spirit for their mom. Grandchildren who are separated from the family due to their parents separation came back to offer final prayers for their grandma. I am sure my aunt was happy to witness all these taking place. My niece and nephew who were in overseas and not able to return for the funeral, joined us virtually to witness the whole event via Skype.
I just hope that the brotherhood bonding would not just end after the funeral. I hope the family ties will continue to stay strong despite the passing away of the family matriach.
To my aunt, may you rest in peace. May you be blessed with a good rebirth. We will always cherish the beautiful memories of you and your love for all of us. We love you always!
This posting is my participation for That's My World Tuesday's meme. Today's photo featured the funeral procession through the street of Melaka.

Hi JC, am sorry for your lost of your eldest aunt.
It is sad to read in the papers that children do not get along and then fight over monetary problem during funeral. I witness this during my grandfather's funeral. So sad.
Luckily during my parent's funerals, my siblings and I did a good job and till this very day, our relationship are very good and we looked forward to every family gathering with siblings and their families.
But not same can be said for my cousins (3 brothers), they are not on speaking terms...sigh.
She must have been a great lady. Rest In Peace.
Heartfelt sympathy. Is this picture from the wake? That is an amazing procession.
Dear all, thanks for the condolence message.
Alice, it is truly saddening that money can be the main reason for a family to split up. And it is happening very often. Seems like money is thicker than blood these days! Same here, I am glad that my siblings are very close and I hope we will remain close and loving forever.
Louise, that is the funeral procession leaving the shophouse of my aunt going through our neighbourhood area.
regards to the passing of your aunt...
and what a lovely and colorful procession...just lovely.
hope the family can come together as a result.
take care
I am sure our unt was happy to see family diffeences set aside as you all came together as family. May be even that was her last an greaest achievement in his life, to bring the family together for her funeral.
Its never easy saying goodbye, and sorry to hear about your lost aunt. Sending my heartfelt condolence for you and family. May her soul rest in peace.
My sympathy to you and to your family, FLJ was right, it's never easy saying goodbye, especially if goodbye is meant forever. But however, we who are left must stay strong, acceptance is always the key to let go, we have to move on however the pain caused.
