ABC Wednesday - 'V' is for Venerable Monk
In recent years, I would try my best to offer either a breakfast or lunch dana to the venerable monks at the Subang Jaya Temple. It's a good way to be thankful and grateful of what we have by practising this act of giving/generosity on one's birthday. This dana offering is also practised by some of my friends. This photo was taken during a lunch dana held in conjunction of a friend's birthday. During the offering, the monk would also do a blessing for the person who is celebrating his birthday. I wonder what other's would be posting for today's 'V' theme. Join me to find out at the ABC Wednesday portal!
"Use your first smile, your first form of generosity, of love, of kindness—use it at home; start at home. And if there is something left over—if … your plate is just full of abundance of patience and goodness and smiles and joy, then by all means, you should go … and offer that to others. But we must begin at home." by Dr Robin Smith

happy wednesday!
What a lovely custom! I suppose it's a little like taking cake in for all your friends at work on your birthday, or buying a round of drinks - only better because the monks benefit.
This guy certainly looks happy!
I am a free thinker but used to accompany my mom during 1st day of the new year and offered food to the buddhist monks. I think it is a very good custom.
That is a lovely custom, one which I would like to adopt. There's no Buddhist temple here, but I will think of someone to treat. The food looks delicious....
