Steamboat - A Family Gathering

My family will usually celebrate a joyful occasion by having a steamboat meal at home. We had it during Chinese New Year, birthdays and anytime when we want to have a celebration!
Steamboat is not only easy to prepare but it is also fun to have everyone sitting or standing around the table and dipping our food into a pot of boiling broth or in this photo, peanut sauce ala Melaka Lok-Lok style. We placed the food on skewers and the children just picked their favourites and placed the skewers into the pot. We chat away as we wait for our food to cook.

The children also love to cook their own food. They get to pick their favourite items, e.g. fishballs and prawns. Even the youngest one, who is only 4 years old, is able to do her own cooking!

This 31 August, Malaysia is going to celebrate its 52nd National Day. It's going to be a long weekend and we are all heading home to Melaka for another steamboat gathering with my family.

Read More For Less

This is one of my favourite bookshops. Over here, one can buy book at a lower price. That's why the tag line of the shop says 'Read More For Less'! It is a great place to hang out on weekend. We usually come over here after having a delicious Korean meal at a nearby restaurant.

Last Sunday, a group of Volkswagen enthusiasts gathered at The Summit Mall in USJ for a contest. It's my 1st visit to such a gathering and I was drooling over those cuted Beetles, especially those in bright colours!!! Wish I have one too!

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Malaysia's 'Telur Rangers' team was there with their striking colour Beetle to get visitors to sign up for its "Save The Turtle" Egg=Life's campaign. Please do support this noble effort. You can go to WWF website to sign up as supporters!

My World Tues - Durian Season

The durian season has started for awhile. In fact a friend told me that it is going to end soon. I haven't really started feasting on them. The weather has been hot lately and avoiding durian is a wise move for me. I am afraid of being heaty after eating durian and fall sick with sore throat. Many who practice Western medicine do not believe on this thing that has to do with durian being heaty for our body.

But I abide with mom's teachings that durian is heaty and NEVER ever consume it with hard liquor and Chinese medicine. It can be deadly. A schoolmate of mine lost his brother after he ate durian and take Chinese medicine. He never wake up from his sleep. That was a really sad incident.

Monochrome Monday - Rebung Building

The structure of this building is made similar to the shape of a bamboo shoot (in Malay, it's called 'Rebung'). It housed the headquarter of Telekom Malaysia, our local telecommunications company.

Central Market LRT Station

The LRT (Light Rapid Transit) station at Central Market, Kuala Lumpur. With the LRT service, it is so much easier to go downtown KL. However, the connecting bus to the train station is usually not so convenient. Thus, I only take LRT to downtown occasionally. And I love to have my camera along to take photos throughout my trip.

Do you use the train service in your city? Or do you prefer to drive? Or cycle? Or.....?

Subang Ria Park

Sunrise over Subang Ria Park.

About Subang Ria Park

======================

Subang Ria Park belongs to Sime Darby Properties, the developer of Subang Jaya. The Subang Jaya Municipal Council can upgrade the park with taxpayers’ money, but it can’t, because the land is a private property. It's a catch twenty-two situation here.

Recently Sime Darby Properties has released a press statement of its plan to upgrade Subang Ria Park and hand it back to the residents of Subang Jaya – with a condition that 22% of the park goes to the building of low-density homes.

Subang Jaya residents gave a resounding 'NO' to the proposal of Sime Darby Properties. They are adamant that the park should not be developed as it would mean the loss of its green lung, increase in the population density and traffic jam in this township .

When the properties of Subang Jaya was developed and put on sale in the late '70s, title for the whole 30 hectre land is meant exclusively as a green lung for Subang Jaya. But now the developer has other plan for it. We hope our wish to retain the park for recreational purpose will stand.

My World Tuesday - Influenza A(H1N1)

Caught this family in masks at the PC Fair in KLCC on Sunday. It is wise of them to wear a mask as prevention from possible transmission of Influenza A(H1N1).

In Malaysia, there have been 8 deaths caused by this influenza. Some schools and universities have been closed. Even National Service has been stopped temporarily. Hospitals, airports or even gyms are taking close precaution, such as health declaration by individuals or taking temperature of people entering their premises.

How is this influenza affecting your
city?

"Use your first smile, your first form of generosity, of love, of kindness—use it at home; start at home. And if there is something left over—if … your plate is just full of abundance of patience and goodness and smiles and joy, then by all means, you should go … and offer that to others. But we must begin at home." by Dr Robin Smith
