ABC Wednesday - 'K' is for Korean Barbecue

ABC Wednesday returns with the theme 'K' today. For today's theme, I am posting my favourite meal i.e. Korean Barbecue!

Korean wave has hit our shore since Korean drama series become popular TV prime time success. Korean restaurants, music, movie and fashion are very common with the locals now. We have many Korean barbecue restaurants in USJ Taipan now. This is one of my favourites, Daorae Korean Restaurant. These photos show the preparation of grilled meat by the restaurant staff. The meat is served with myriad side dishes. Mmmm...this is yummy!!

My World Tuesday - Little Angel

Sweet dream

Sleepy Yawn

Chubby fingers

Pink Fingers

I am so glad to share these beautiful shots that I took today of my friend's baby girl. She was delivered yesterday, Sunday, 27 September 2009. This little infant's brother, Zhe-Hern, was featured on my blog last year under the title of A Second Bundle of Joy and Little Zhe-Hern. Like her elder brother, I took this photo when she is one day old. Doesn't she seems like a little angel?

My wish for this little darling is that she will bring more joy and love to her parents and her brother.

Playground at SS12, Subang Jaya

A quiet scene of the SS12 playground in Subang Jaya on a Sunday morning. I took this photo from the ramp of the new uncompleted highway that is located beside this area in May. I believe the children playing at this playground no longer enjoy the fresh environment as seen in this photo since the opening of the highway. Due to the close proximity to the highway, the residents are sure to be affected by the noise of vehicles travelling on this new highway since it opened less than two months ago. Another effect from development in our township?

Old Place New Name

Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) is newly named Sime Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya since Oct last year. It is almost a year since the change to its new name. However, we are too used to calling it SJMC. It will take awhile for old residents of Subang Jaya to get used to calling it by its new name.

I was walking on the newly built unopened highway when I caught a plane flying above me and quickly captured this shot.

Wishing all of you a lovely weekend! ;p

Uniquely Malaysia

During the Selangor Chief Minister's Open House held on the 1st day of Hari Raya (also known as Eid ul-Fitr celebration), Malaysians of various races came together for this event! That's the one thing that I find unique about us Malaysians. Growing up in a country with different races, we have got used to coming together for each other's festivals celebrations. That's what I always miss whenever I am working abroad.

Probably this little Sikh boy would grow up to be like many of us ~ enjoying the cultures and festivals of different races that we grow up with! Let's together enjoy the uniqueness that we have in our country and be proud to be Malaysians!

ABC Wednesday - 'I' is for In Long Queue

For today's theme of 'I', my posting would be 'In Long Queue'. You wouldn't believe why all these people are willing to brave the hot, scorching sun for! They are waiting for a table at one of the famous chicken rice ball shops in my hometown, Melaka. The chicken rice in this shop is served in the form a a ball, the size of a golf ball. It is a famous Hainanese delicacy that can only be found in Melaka. It tastes very good and that's why these people are willing to be in this long queue!! Would you be willing to do the same?

ABC Wednesday returns today with the theme 'I'. Check out what others have posted on this theme at its portal.

My World Tuesday - Street Medicine Man

The street medicine man was drawing lots of attention from the tourists that visited Jonker Walk last Saturday. There were a huge crowd circling him as he performed the act of breaking a hole into each coconut with his forefinger and threw in a lot of humour as he went on. He will then use the ointment he sells to soothe his forefinger to prevent it from swelling. It was so impressive that he was able to sell to many of these spectators.

Don't miss him out if you ever come to visit Jonker Walk!

The parents of these two children run the Happy Flower Homestay in Kaskasen II, Tomohon, where we stayed. The little boy just received a new toy car from his mom and took it for a ride with his sister. They look so happy!! Isn't is fun to be children? They are so easily contented with life. :p

A bowl of delicious, heart-warming pork noodle from Jalan Kenanaga made by this friendly old man who has been selling this noodle for over 30 years in Kuala Lumpur. The difference between his pork noodle and other stalls is he also added prawns to it. Really delicious!

I would like to share with all of you 2 short films recently released as part of the
15 malaysia short film project. This project was launched on 17 Aug and the project consists of 15 short films made by 15 Malaysian filmmakers. These films not only deal with socio-political issues in Malaysia, they also feature some of the best-known faces in this country, including actors, musicians and top political leaders. You may think of them as funky little films made by 15 Malaysian voices for the people of Malaysia.

The film 'Potong Saga' is a hillarious one that I would like to share with all of you. It is a laugh-out-loud film about a Chinese boy’s misguided attempts at opening an Islamic bank account.

This 2nd film is called 'Halal'. It is a very silly slapstick comedy demonstrating the proper Islamic way to slaughter chicken. Many may not know what it means by 'Halal' food for the Muslims. This film give viewers a better understanding of 'halal'. Laugh away with this!!

Wish you all a lovely weekend!

ABC Wednesday - 'H' is for Herbal Remedy

'H' stands for Herbal Remedy. That's what I would go for whenever I feel like I am going to be down with a sore throat or flu. This photo shows a herbal jelly that I could usually get from Chinese herbal shop. It's usually eaten with honey or syrup to reduce its bitter flavour. It's one remedy that I can always rely on!!

Do you take herbal remedy?

Water Lily

A beautiful water lily in the pond at the Orchid Garden in KL's Lake Garden. This garden has many beautiful orchids and various other plants. We had a nice afternoon strolling through this garden.

It's a beautiful afternoon to walk around Melaka riverside last Sat. I strolled along the riverside and capture this new walkway that the local government has built in an effort to beautify the riverside.

As you can see, the Eye on Malaysia is just a short distance away. The Melaka and Malaysia flags were hung up in preparation for Malaysia's 52nd National Day celebration on Monday. The river was murky due to the rainy season. But the sun was all up and it's so refreshing to walk around and soak in the bustling scene of tourists hanging around the Stadhuys area.

Ramadan Bazaar

It's the fasting month of Ramadan for Muslim. In Malaysia, this is the time where we have Ramadan Bazaars that sell all kind of local delicacies for our fellow Muslim friends to enjoy when they break fast in the evening. For those of us who do not fast, we also partake in the enjoyment of those delicious local food being on sale at the bazaar.

Here's a photo of a stall in SS18 Subang Jaya's Bazaar Ramadan that specializes in delicacies from the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, such as Nasi Dagang. My friend loves the condiment that is served with the rice sold here, i.e. fish sauce (called Budu). It is an acquired taste. She grows up in Kota Bahru and thus this is a good time for her to find Nasi Dagang, without travelling all the way to the East Coast.

What's your favourite local delicacy of your country?

ABC Wednesday - 'G' is for Game

ABC Wednesday returns with the theme 'G'. 'G' is for Game!

It was school holiday last week. The children back in my hometown in Melaka had a good time playing the "Tumbling Monkey" game throughout the weekend. See how focused each of them were in trying to remove a coloured skewer without dropping any little monkeys hanging on it! The winner is the one who collected the least monkey!
"Use your first smile, your first form of generosity, of love, of kindness—use it at home; start at home. And if there is something left over—if … your plate is just full of abundance of patience and goodness and smiles and joy, then by all means, you should go … and offer that to others. But we must begin at home." by Dr Robin Smith
