Reading at the Five-Foot Way

I love reading and whenever I catch people reading, I would like to take shots of them.  This was taken at Jalan Tun H.S. Lee (in the vicinity of Chinatown aka Petaling Street).  I caught this street vendor couple catching up on news of the day by the five-foot way during a break from work.

Reading at the Bus Terminal

I caught this man (I assume working for one of the bus companies) reading by the bus terminal opposite Central Market. This place is chaotic. The buses were parked bumper to bumper, waiting to be filled up with passengers. Yet, this man calmly read his daily paper. Coincidentally, he was reading an Indian Daily and next to him was a pillar with an advertisement in Tamil.

Our local newspapers are published in Malay, English, Chinese and Tamil. How about those in your cities?

Wish you all a wonderful weekend. In Malaysia, we are having a long weekend as Monday is a public holiday to celebrate Prophet Muhammad's Birthday. As Malaysia is a Muslim country, we have this celebration as a public holiday.

Reading at Work

Saw this garbage truck ahead of me and this guy seated at the edge of the truck was reading a flyer as the truck moved! It just shows that one can do reading anywhere, irregardless of location!

Reading in a Nature Surrounding

I caught this man reading his paper at the Subang Ria Lake Park while we were doing the Merdeka Walk. Despite having over 1,000 people walking past him, he was not distracted from his reading at all!! That's what I would call deep concentration! It also makes me notice that many people enjoy reading in a nature surrounding.

Reading Theme Continues

I will continue with the "Reading" theme today. Caught this man reading the Sunday paper at the Lake Titiwangsa Park. In the background is the Eye on Malaysia ferris wheel. This ferris wheel ended its operations on 31st August and will be dismantled and moved to my hometown in Melaka. It's a landmark in the park and I am surprised that its lifespan here only lasted less than 3 years, if I am not mistaken.

Read While Waiting

Do you love to read? I am one who always carry a book in my handbag for fear of being held waiting at the traffic light, delayed appointment, food order during lunch or worst, traffic jam.

A writer and freelance host who goes by the name of Zain H.D., recently organised a flash mob as part of his ongoing Read While Waiting Project (RWP).

But what happens at a flash mob event? Basically, it’s a bunch of strangers gathering in a public place, behaving in a pre-determined – often attention-grabbing – manner for a short period of time, and then dispersing. The mobs are usually organised online or via text messaging, and a successful flash mob depends very much on the element of surprise.

The idea for his RWP flash mob was to make people aware that everyone should read while waiting. Whether it is for the bus that takes forever to arrive, the once-again delayed train, or the inching cinema queue, you can whip out that book from your bag and bury your nose in it.
