ABC Wednesday - 'B' is for "Bodhi Wishing Tree"

This is a Bodhi tree made of papers and tree branches. It was set up at the entrance of the Shah Alam Buddhist Association. Wishes are written on the card made in the shape of a Bodhi leaf and tied up to branches. Many children from the Sunday School placed their wishes on the tree.

A Tribute to Yasmin Ahmad

Today I wanna pay tribute to the late Yasmin Ahmad, a highly acclaimed and award-winning film director who passed away last Saturday. Yasmin had directed many award-winning TV commercials for Petronas and that is why I have featured a black & white shot of Petronas Twin Towers for today's Monochrome Monday posting.

Here's a special poem dedicated to Yasmin, written by actress Azean Irdawati, that was published by The Sun paper in an article entitled:
Farewell to Yasmin Ahmad by Bissme S.

She was an angel
God sent us
No, he lent us
To be a storyteller
Who spun stories of
Magic, joy and enchantment
Who we often lose sight of
Her fight was brief
Her leaving was a grief
Just like her movies
The end came too soon
But her wisdom remain
like words to a tune
That we will hold dear
Forever you will be near.
I love you Yasmin
I will miss you always.

Below is a beautiful TV commercial that the late Yasmin Ahmad directed, entitled 'Funeral', commissioned by Singapore's Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS). The story portrays a mother's love for her husband who passed away.

Another beautiful TV commercial by Yasmin Ahmad for AirAsia entitled: "Have you flown Air Asia lately?"

Lastly, I present you Yasmin Ahmad, behind the scene during the shooting of 'Funeral' TV ad.

Yasmin, may you have a good onward journey. Your absence will be missed by many fellow Malaysians, more so, during those key festive seasons when we don't get to see anymore of those brilliant tv commercials by you.

Signage Maker

This man is a signage maker. The work is not easy. He has to carved each Chinese characters into the wood and then paint on it with gold paint. This is a traditional Chinese signage used on doors of shops or restaurants with the names of the proprietor. Or some may carve encouraging phrases or poem and give them as gift when someone opens a new company or shop.

Teapot at Fong Lye

We always order tea to go with our food while dining at Fong Lye restaurant. I love this teapot that was used to serve our tea during our recent visit. Nice, right?

Fong Lye

This is one of my favourite restaurants in The Garden mall. It's called Fong Lye and it serves delicious Three Cup Chicken - a famous Taiwanese dish. Oh ya, I forgot to mention that this restaurant serves Taiwanese cuisine. During lunch time, the place is usually packed. Just like in this photo. We had to wait outside for a table. But the food is worth all those waiting. Service is good and price is reasonably. Most important, the food is of good quality!

My World Tues - An Old Profession

Today I will share with you photos of the profession of a man who makes household items out of metal. This shop is located near to the street where I grew up in Melaka. It is on this old street (Tofu Street is what the locals call this street) that one can find many old professions such as this man's. Not many young people wants to learn such old trade anymore.

All these items are hand-made by the above man. Isn't it great that he can still craft out things like the letter boxes or even the red and gold lamps?

Pail, pot, bucket and barbecue pit are also available.

This is my posting for That's My World Tuesday's meme.

Beautiful Smile of A Golden Child

I just cannot resist taking photo of children. It is very easy to capture their mood on photos. There is no pretence. The emotions that they exude through their facial expressions are usually genuine.

Here's another child. This little girl of golden hair and a beautiful smile showered with the glow of the rising sun. I found her helping her parents to clear out fishes from a big pail.

Doesn't that warm smile fill with lotsa sunshine?

ABC Wednesday - 'Y' is for Yellow Wall

A yellow wall with interesting graphic of a smiling sun caught my interest as we were roaming the street of Manado in North Sulawesi. Can anyone tell me what does the word "Torang pe kartu" means?

For more postings of today's 'Y' theme, click on the ABC Wednesday portal link!
"Use your first smile, your first form of generosity, of love, of kindness—use it at home; start at home. And if there is something left over—if … your plate is just full of abundance of patience and goodness and smiles and joy, then by all means, you should go … and offer that to others. But we must begin at home." by Dr Robin Smith
