Monochrome Monday - Choir

Today is my first posting for year 2010. My apologies to all for being missing during the past few weeks. I have been having an inspiring time, involving with the organizing of a Buddhist youth exchange programme that took place from 1-10 Jan. It has been a rewarding journey in terms of spiritual growth for me. I am back now, feeling more energized and inspired to face the challenges and opportunities that this new year brings me. Hope you are also well-charged for this new year.

For today's Monochrome Monday's posting, here's a photo taken during the concert held for the youth exchange programme. It's a choir performance by Messengers of Dharma (in short, MoD). I like the flow of the costumes and the mysterious look that the dark background provides. Hope you like it too.

Monochrome Monday - Shadowplay

We had a fun time as we stroll along the Melaka River last weekend. One of the games we played was shadowplay. We made poses while our shadows were reflected on the zing wall and I was clicking away on the camera.

Monochrome Monday - Eye on Malaysia & Bright Moon

Year-end school holiday has started. We brought our nieces and nephews for a treat ~ a ride on the Eye on Malaysia. Coincidentally, we had a bright moon on Friday evening when this photo was taken.

Isn't it beautiful to have the Eye on Malaysia together with the moon in one frame?

Monochrome Monday - Tree & Gazebo

Glad to share with you this photo that I took at the park near my house. It was a Sunday evening with bright setting sun. I think it would be just perfect for taking black & white photos.

Since I joined the Monochrome Monday posting, it has made me work on improving my black & white photography. It can be quite frustrating seeing my photos turned out poorly, yet those posted on the Monochrome Monday's portal looking spectacular! So, I try to view my objects in black & white and try to figure out how the object texture and light play on the object would turn out.

Today's photo is one of the result of my experiment in BW photography. I have added a little brown tint using Photoshop to this photo. I love the shadow of the leaves on the tree trunk. In my opinion, the tree trunk has interesting texture that adds depth to this photo. Constructive feedback to improve my monochrome shot is a great welcome!

Thanks to Aileni who is hosting the Monochrome Monday portal. Please visit it to view more gorgeous photos in Black & White!
I wish you all a lovely Monday!

A Tribute to Yasmin Ahmad

Today I wanna pay tribute to the late Yasmin Ahmad, a highly acclaimed and award-winning film director who passed away last Saturday. Yasmin had directed many award-winning TV commercials for Petronas and that is why I have featured a black & white shot of Petronas Twin Towers for today's Monochrome Monday posting.

Here's a special poem dedicated to Yasmin, written by actress Azean Irdawati, that was published by The Sun paper in an article entitled:
Farewell to Yasmin Ahmad by Bissme S.

She was an angel
God sent us
No, he lent us
To be a storyteller
Who spun stories of
Magic, joy and enchantment
Who we often lose sight of
Her fight was brief
Her leaving was a grief
Just like her movies
The end came too soon
But her wisdom remain
like words to a tune
That we will hold dear
Forever you will be near.
I love you Yasmin
I will miss you always.

Below is a beautiful TV commercial that the late Yasmin Ahmad directed, entitled 'Funeral', commissioned by Singapore's Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS). The story portrays a mother's love for her husband who passed away.

Another beautiful TV commercial by Yasmin Ahmad for AirAsia entitled: "Have you flown Air Asia lately?"

Lastly, I present you Yasmin Ahmad, behind the scene during the shooting of 'Funeral' TV ad.

Yasmin, may you have a good onward journey. Your absence will be missed by many fellow Malaysians, more so, during those key festive seasons when we don't get to see anymore of those brilliant tv commercials by you.

Monochome Monday - Frame

At a construction site, I caught the frame of a building being constructed. The frame looks great under the glare of the sun.
Hope you like it for today's Monochrome Monday's posting.

"Use your first smile, your first form of generosity, of love, of kindness—use it at home; start at home. And if there is something left over—if … your plate is just full of abundance of patience and goodness and smiles and joy, then by all means, you should go … and offer that to others. But we must begin at home." by Dr Robin Smith
