Jalan Hang Jebat

Another look at old pre-war building in the vicinity of KL's Chinatown.  I find this building intriguing and deserve a posting of its own.  It's located just opposite the Yan Keng Benevolent Dramatic Association building.

Jalan Tun H.S. Lee

These pre-war shophouses remind me of buildings in my hometown, Melaka. They make me feel like I am being back home.  I will continue to post photos of old buildings in Chinatown for the next few days until I run out of them. Ha ha...that won't take too long as my inventory is rather low.

I am hoping to buy a Canon EOS650D camera soon and go out with lotsa motivation to take photos.  My inspiration has been low lately. That explains my absence from posting recently.  Probably a new toy will make me go out to shoot photos more often.

A Glimpse into the Past

This dim sum restaurant, Yook Woo Hin (read more here, The Star) closed its business on National Day, i.e. 31 August, after been in business for 84 years.  The building it occupied has been sold by the landlord  for the mass rapid train development project.

Jalan Sultan

A photography friend urged us to go out to Jalan Sultan in KL (in Petaling Street aka Chinatown area) to capture as many shots as possible. And we were to do this AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.  Reason being some of the buildings will be demolished due to the development of mass rapid train development that will passing through some parts of Petaling Street.

Growing up in Melaka, I enjoy old buildings with history than those new, glass, high-rise types.  But as I can see, in KL particularly, many of these old buildings are neglected or tore down and taken over by new high rise buildings.  It's sad that we let heritage buildings like these being demolished easily.  I wish our government would have more insights to preserve and conserve these heritage buildings so that the future generations may still be able to appreciate the beautiful architecture that will be lost forever, if they are tore down. I wish....I wish.....I wish.............

In a dire effort to save Petaling Street's buildings from being sacrificed in the name of MRT development, The Petaling Street Community Art Project organized "Light a Lantern, Save Jalan Sultan" event on the eve of Chap Goh Mei this year.  Here is a video of the event:

Symphony Lake

We were there in Suria KLCC when the trial run of the Symphony Lake musical fountain was carried out.  It was a week prior to the Global Gas Conference in KLCC.  The lightings of Petronas Twin Towers combined with the lightings surrounding the lake is breathtaking.  We all had a good time hanging out at the lake area. Catch it if you are down here in KLCC.

High Rise

I was driven to work and caught sight of these high rise buildings glistening under the morning sun and look so good. I have been driving past them often but never really paid attention to them.  This time around, they really caught my attention.  How often do we walk past scenes on a daily basis and yet never stop to see them?

Happy weekend everyone!   I am excited that this is post 990th. Wow, I have come a long way. I can't wait for post 1,000th!

Rebung Tower Again

Another shot of Rebung Tower.   I posted one on last Thursday.

Rebung Tower

The Rebung Tower is where the headquarter of Telekom Malaysia is located.
An impressive structure located along the Federal Highway.

I took this photo when I car-pooled to the city.  That's when I need not be at the steering wheel.
My eyes got to enjoy the nice scenery along the road.  My finger was able to click away!
How nice if I can do this everyday!  Then I would have more photos to share here.

Heritage Building

An old building in Penang that is undergoing restoration work! I love the old buildings in Penang island. Hope the government will do restoration work and keep them well preserved for future generations' appreciation. I wonder what's the story behind this building. Does this thought ever cross your mind whenever you see an old building?

Petronas Philharmonic Hall

At the Petronas Philharmonic Hall during the recent Toyota Classic orchestra performance. This is an annual event that I look forward to. It's rather extraordinary this year as for the first time the performance is held at the Petronas Philharmonic Hall. I love the hall when it is lit up!

Wish you all a great weekend ahead!

Ramada's Reflection

The reflection of Ramada Renaissance Hotel in Melaka River. This hotel is the first 5-star hotel that operated in Melaka. It's a nice walk along the Melaka River after Melaka Tourism beautify the riverside. Pedestrian pathway and street lamps are placed along the river. If you have the chance to visit Melaka, do take a long stroll along the river. Savour the beautiful sights that greet you.

Moon Window of Peranakan House at Heeren Street

A round hole that allows one to look through to your neighbour's house ~ what should I call it? A moon window, that's what came to my mind.

This was taken at a traditional Peranakan (Straits-born Chinese) house at Heeren Street Melaka. The patterns around the round window makes this window attractive. Below this window is a nice bench with attractive patterns too. See the photo below where I got my nephew and niece to pose for a photo.

Monochrome Monday - Rebung Building

The structure of this building is made similar to the shape of a bamboo shoot (in Malay, it's called 'Rebung'). It housed the headquarter of Telekom Malaysia, our local telecommunications company.

Isn't it beautiful?

It is Monochrome Monday again. See more photos in black and white there!

"Use your first smile, your first form of generosity, of love, of kindness—use it at home; start at home. And if there is something left over—if … your plate is just full of abundance of patience and goodness and smiles and joy, then by all means, you should go … and offer that to others. But we must begin at home." by Dr Robin Smith
