Bridal Couple at Botanical Garden

We were taking a stroll at the Penang Botanical Garden when we crossed paths with these couples in bridal costume. They were with a photographer and it seemed like they were having an outdoor photo shoot there. The weather in Penang was cool and it was the raining season then. If not, we would see these couples would be drenched in sweat. And instead of smiles, we may be seeing frowns! Have you had your wedding photos taken at the outdoor? How did it feel? Was it fun?

The video is hillarious and the song is so popular among young adults in Malaysia.

I was first introduced to this song by two Korean delegates who performed the dance during ASEAN International Buddhist Youth Exchange. They truly brought the Korean waves to the Buddhist youths. It became such a hit among us! In the gym, this song was also played during our Dance Mania class. It's a catchy and nice song! Enjoy it!

A Punjabi Bride

I was fortunate to be invited to a Punjabi wedding after I gate-crashed my neighbour's daughter's hen party. I contemplated for a long while if I should pop by the hen party uninvited. Nearing midnight, I could not resist the temptation. Metaphorically said, I went, I saw and I conquered.

Firstly, I introduced myself to my dear neighbour and said I have never attended a Punjabi wedding. Can I take some photos of the bride? She introduced herself as Gurmit. It was the first time we formally introduced ourselves to each other although we have been staying a few doors away from each other for the past 10 years. That's life in the city here!! Thanks that the wedding took place and now I got to know another neighbour!!!

The kind Gurmit said the painting of henna on the bride's hands & feet were over. She insisted that I stay back for some food and drink. Even got me to do a Bhangra dance with her leading me on. She then popped out the invitation to attend the wedding at the Gudwara Sahib (a Sikh Temple) in SS14, PJ. Without hesitation I said YES, it would give me great pleasure to attend a Punjabi wedding for the very first time. I was overjoyed!!! Thank you to Gurmit for having me at her daughter's wedding! And I will never forget my first bhangra experience!

And this is the photo of Gurmit's daughter, Harvin, on her wedding day. She looked resplendant in the bridal costume & make-up. Wasn't she beautiful?

Colourful Canapes

At a friend's wedding tea party, we were served an assortment of canapes. Don't they look attractive? I am one who loves food and I find food beautifully garnished would be more delicious than served plainly! Don't you agree with me?

My World Tuesday - Wedding Season

Since the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar (that begins on 19 Sept), there have been many weddings been held. The Chinese believes that it is auspicious to have weddings from the 8th - 12th month of the year. A friend of mine said he has to attend 7 weddings in Nov & Dec and that would burn a big hole in his pocket. During Chinese wedding reception, guests would be bringing ' angpow' (red packets contain money) as gifts to the wedding couple. The monetary gifts could help the couple to pay for the wedding reception. That's the pragmatic approach practised by the Chinese.

Monochrome Monday - Happy Bride

A photo of my friend, Lulu, on her wedding day. This was taken last year and recently we receive the good news from her hubby, Keong, that she is pregnant. Congratulations to you Lulu and may you have a safe pregnancy. Looking forward to seeing you and Keong being first time parents!!

Malay Wedding

Today's posting is a bridal couple at a Malay wedding. They are beautifully dressed in traditional Malay wedding costumes in gold colour theme. Even the wedding dais colour matched the costumes of the couple. They are preparing for the 'bersanding' ceremony.

After checking some wedding photos websites, I got the idea to create this "Just Married" signage & the accompanying cans to make noises as the wedding car is driven. Fortunately my creativity was working well on those 2 days. Here's the result. I really like the signage. It took me quite awhile to figure out how I should make it attractive. Not some shoddy signage that I have seen.

It all started with the corrugated carton box that I got from a stationery shop. I know that I would wrap it up with some paper to make it more attractive. But I had not a clue what kind of paper to use. I just threw everything to the wind and think of abundance.

Luckily the stationery shop that I went to had this silver colour strip gift wrapper. Very classy-looking indeed!

Then I used Adobe Illustrator to produce the fonts. Traced them onto pink stationery paper. Cut them out and paste them on the wrapper. However, the pink fonts didn't stand out. That's when the idea of using marker pen to outline the fonts would make them more prominent.

After that the idea of using the pink ribbons to tie them came to my mind when I saw those ribbons at the stationery shop. Eventually everything falls into place perfectly!!! How blessed we all were!

The cans really made lotsa noise as the car drove away from the temple. As I listened to the "clink-clonk" noise it made, I can't help smiling that this little creativity has sparked some noise in the couple lives immediately after they became husband and wife.

Wedding - Lunch Dana

This is another practice of Dana (generosity) by offering lunch to the Sangha (monk) members.
The couple was doing the offering and the Reverends were doing the Sharing of Merits. May the blessing of the offerings made by the couple be shared with all beings.

Wedding Blessing

The Sangha (monk) members who attended the wedding were doing the recitation of Jaya Mangala Sutta to bless the bridal couples. It was a significant and beautiful moment as the chant echoed through the shrine hall. The ambience of the temple was lovely. The presence of family members, spiritual friends (kalyana mitras) and members of the Buddhist community who came to participate in the wedding through choir presentation, audio technician and etc made this event a memorable one for all of us.

Wedding - Offering of Requisites

Seen here is the wedding couple offering a robe to our Chief Adhikarana Nayaka Maha Thera of Malaysia, Most Venerable B. Saranankara. This is part of the practice of Dana, i.e. generosity. The couple also offered daily requisites that comprised of towel, toothbrush, tooth paste and shaver.

A Buddhist Wedding

What a lovely wedding we had yesterday!!! The wedding ceremony was held at shrine hall of the Chempaka Buddhist Lodge in Petaling Jaya. The bridal couple had the Chief Monk, Rev. Saranankara to do a blessing at this ceremony. It was such a happy occasion for the couples, their families and friends. Fortunately all the programmes went smoothly despite Murphy Law came into actions several times. It was indeed a blessed wedding.

My wish for the couple, Sim Keong & Phaik Loo, is may they always be blessed by the Triple Gems as they start their lives together as husband and wife!
