Pink is the Theme

October is the Breast Cancer Awareness month. Malls and even KL Tower is supporting this campaign to create awareness among women to do self-breast check in order to detect breast cancer at its early stage. Early detection can help the patient to survive breast cancer.

This photo was a window display of a lingerie boutique in The Mid Valley Mall. It features a wishing tree with words of hope, love and health awareness for all where breast cancer is concerned.

Do remember that early detection of breast cancer can save life. Create awareness about self-breast check.

Deepavali Kolam

Happy Deepavali Day to all Hindus around the world! May you have a splendid celebration with family and friends.

I am glad to post the recent photos of Deepavali from One Utama Mall in Petaling Jaya. A
huge colourful peacock with a vibrant colour kolam (rice-grain drawing) greeted fellow shoppers. Many are attracted to this colourful kolam, that form part of the tails of the peacock.

Some information about kolam derived from Tamil Electronic Library © K. Kalyanasundaram :

"Kolam" refers to decorative artwork drawn on the floor in front of deities in puja rooms or in front of houses in South India. It is believed that kolam bestow prosperity to homes. Kolam-drawing is a distinctive cultural tradition of Tamils of South India. As there were many South Indians who migrated to Malaysia in the early 20th century, the tradition of drawing kolam is still widely practised here.

Most often finely grinded rice flour is used to make these drawings. Colours are created by adding coloured powders to the rice. It is a time old cultural tradition of South Indian families going back to many many generations. Young girls learn how to draw kolam patterns from their mothers or grandmothers. The patterns are often passed on from generation to generation. Kolams are also drawn on weddings.

More information of Kolam can be found from Wikipedia.

Deepavali Delights

A wide array of saris and kurtas were put on sale for Diwali! I love those colours of Indian ethnic clothes! In fact I have learnt to tie a sari from my colleague. Once we had an ethnic costume day in our office, of course, my choice of the day was a sari!

Classical Indian Dancer - Wesak Concert in Brickfields Maha Vihara (1)

I will run a series of photos taken at the concert held on Wesak eve at Kuala Lumpur's Brickfield Maha Vihara. This concert brought together performers from various countries and each of them showcase their cultural performance. There was Classical Dances from Indian, Punjab, Thailand, Sri Lanka, China and also performances by acrobats from China and drummers from Korea.
Today's photo shows the Classical Indian Dance performed by professional dancer from India.
There were 2 dancers. Their fast hand & feet movements, music beats, facial and eyes expressions made their dance very fascinating.
Have you attended any classical Indian dance performance before?

Red & Green

What a contrast the red insect was against its surrounding green! I am not certain if this is a dragon fly. Its vibrant red body caught my attention from far. Can anyone confirm what insect is this?

Sports Day

It's Sports Day!

Students were gathered at the Subang Jaya Council Stadium this morning for their shool's Sports Day. The program started with a parade around the field by members of various teams/houses. They donned on costumes with colours that represented their houses. This photo shows the team from Yellow House (written on their board as Rumah Kuning).

The young lady on the left wore a Baju Kebaya; the cheeky boy who gave a wave had on him the Baju Melayu; and the young lady with the placard wore a Baju Kurung. These are some of the traditional Malay costumes wore in Malaysia.

Which costume do you like most?

Colour Fizz

Spring is here! Cosmetic companies are busy featuring their spring colour collections. Saw this big poster of an attractive model wearing the multi-colours that one can easily associate with spring. These are joyful, luminous & daring colours~ as the message of this cosmetic carries! And it would certainly stop traffic!

Colours on the Highland

A photo on Colourful Garage in The Hague Daily prompted me to post this photo on the colourful First World Hotel in the Genting Highlands. When I first saw this hotel, it makes me ponder how the painter manage to paint the patterns on this high rise building. Did he draw the patterns on the building first before he started painting? And how did he manage to turn out the patterns perfectly? Can anyone enlighten me on this?

Pinky Winnie

Happy Valentine's Day to all DPB friends out there!!!

Alas, I don't have any Valentine's scene to share with all of you. Have been busy since returning from CNY holiday. But here I have something that I bet is sweet enough to share with all of you on this special day! (wink! wink!)

Took this photo some years ago at the Summit Mall. There was a scooter decoration contest! There were so many creative designs that participated in the contest. I really drool when I see this one! I wonder where I could find an artist to re-create the same design of my scooter, when I have learnt how to ride one and eventually purchase one! Isn't it lovely? I am planning to learn how to ride a bike by end of this year!! And get myself one of such cutie!

Do you ride motorbikes or scooters? Was it easy to learn?

Colorful Clogs

Even clogs today are looking as colourful as Crocs! We used to have clogs in our house and wear them whenever we go to the bathroom or when we were washing clothes. I mean hand-wash our clothes! But those days we only have clogs in red colour. Not like these multi-coloured ones!

Do you wear clogs? What kind of clogs can be found in your city?

Lovely Nyonya Kebayas

Saw this Nyonya Kebayas in one of the shops on Melaka's Jonker Walk! Really attractive!
Nice colour combinations and the embroideries are so intricate!

"Nyonya Kebaya" is the name of these tops worn by Straits Chinese. These tops are worn with colourful sarongs (pareos).

Red Rubies

Don't these pomegranates remind you of red rubies? They look like those jewels to me. Their high content of Vitamin C also provide high nutrients to us!

Do you know that grenadine syrup (which is used to make our cocktails) is made of sweetened promegranate juice? I have drank the pure pomegranate juice in its original form - which is very, very sour!
"Use your first smile, your first form of generosity, of love, of kindness—use it at home; start at home. And if there is something left over—if … your plate is just full of abundance of patience and goodness and smiles and joy, then by all means, you should go … and offer that to others. But we must begin at home." by Dr Robin Smith
