Bright Night

If you are ever in Klang Valley and want to find a place to hang out for food & drink, you can head over to The Curve.  This is the F&B street and it looks amazing in the evening when all the lights go up, the band started performing & you will also be entertained by a brass band that performed nightly at 8pm.

Lanterns in golden hue hung in Pavillion mall.  Pavillion always exceed expectations when it comes to its festive season decorations!  Bravo to its A&P team!

Sky Watch Fri - Lanterns at Thean Hou Temple

The CNY decorations in Thean Hou Temple is so beautiful!!! Check it out before the CNY celebration comes to an end on next Monday. In the background, you can see the KL Tower and Petronas Twin Tower.

Happy Chinese New Year

Today is the first day of Chinese New Year celebration. We celebrate Chinese New Year for 15 days. This photo shows the many decorations available for one to decorate our house. Usually the favourite colour is red. Red is the auspicious colours that will bring one good fortune!!

I wish everyone an auspicious Year of Ox. May this year bring you peace, harmony, love, good health, success, fortune and good luck! Gong Xi Fa Cai!!!

Playing with Lanterns

The Mid-Autumn Festival is only 3 days away. It falls on 14th Sept this year. This weekend, there will many lantern parties be held.

Here is a photo that I took 2 years ago where we had a Lantern Get-together at Kayangan. This young lady came out with the idea of hanging many lanterns on a long stick. The idea was brilliant as the lanterns looked so beautiful when they were all lit-up.

I am looking forward to playing with lanterns this Saturday and Sunday!!! Despite not being of the age to play with it anymore but who cares, the heart is always young! So I am gonna enjoy my lantern nites! Hope you too!

Hanging Up the Lantern

I was up early this morning to go out for photo shoot. Fortunately I caught this man also up early to hang up the lantern at the Baba Nyonya Private Museum in Heeren Street. This private museum is housed in a traditional Straits Chinese house. The lantern that the man is holding is hand-painted. There are very few such lantern makers in Melaka these days.

Dragon Lantern

The lantern in this temple depicts a majestic dragon. Dragon is a mythical being found in many Chinese tales. Dragon can be found in many Chinese arts and crafts.

Source from Wikipedia: Many Chinese people often use the term "Descendants of the Dragon" (龍的傳人) as a sign of ethnic identity, as part of a trend started in the 1970s when different Asian nationalities were looking for animal symbols for representations. The wolf was used among the Mongols, the monkey among Tibetans.

Many Chinese also try to have their babies born in the Year of Dragon. Thus, in the Year of Dragon (for instance, 1988 & 2000) there would be a baby boom in Chinese communities. Those born in the Year of Dragon is associated with being charismatic, dashing, courageous and vigourous. Dragons are usually described as born winners, achievers and tough! To the Chinese, a Dragon son is a cause for celebration because he is believed to be blessed with massive doses of luck.
