Making Love Letters

During our trip to Pulau Ketam, we stumble upon this lady making love letters outside her house. Ha..ha...you may ask what are love letters?

Love letters is a kind of thin crepe made of egg, flour, sugar & coconut milk. A thin layer of batter is then poured onto this round looking mould and cooked over burning charcoal. The cooked round crepe will then be removed and rolled or in this photo, folded into four and kept in air tight containers to keep their crispiness. It's sweet, crispy and smell of the fragrant of coconut milk. Love letters are always served during Chinese New Year. This lady has started making them for sales in preparation for Chinese New Year or Spring Festival that will fall on 14 Feb next year.

Now Fresh, Now Cooked

These are mud crabs on sale at the restaurant in Pulau Ketam. You can choose from the bin the fresh crabs. The restaurant waiter will weigh it and you can decide how many crabs you want based on the offered price. The crabs will then be cooked to the way you like it. We opt for sweet and sour.

Sky Watch Fri - Sunny Afternoon on An Island

This photo was taken from my archive for SkyWatch Friday's posting. It's a sunny afternoon at Pulau Ketam, litrally translated as the Crab Island. I shot this photo as I found it interesting to have the name of the street, i.e. East Road, stenciled on the concrete floor. It was a great timing when a tricycle rode towards me.

Huge Cloud at Pulau Ketam

My 2nd post for today. I forgot that today is SkyWatch Friday! Time truly flies!! Here's a pix that I shot on my trip to Pulau Ketam in July.

Wanna Go Home

After a long day in Pulau Ketam, my feet were tired, my shoulders were raw from sunburnt, my body was sweaty & sticky all over, I just can't wait to go home for a cool shower and great dinner!

This is the air-conditioned ferry that took me back to Port Klang. The ride took 45 minutes. The moment I hit my seat, I put my tired feet up, closed my eyes and had a good nap throughout the journey. Luckily, a kind girl from Pulau Ketam woke me up upon arrival at Port Klang's jetty.

I am fortunate to be the kind of person that can sleep comfortably anywhere, anytime!!! What about you?

Pulau Ketam - Fisherman Boats

I stumbled upon these fisherman boats as I walked about Pulau Ketam. As you can see at the background is the towering telecommunications tower. We now have 3 mobile operators (DiGi, Maxis & Celcom) in Malaysia. Looking at the base stations on this tower, their presence on this small island is very much felt! All of them fighting to get a piece of the small cake....especially revenue from roaming mobiles of Singaporean tourists.

Laundry Day

What a sunny day it was last Sat when I visited Pulau Ketam! I found many laundries and school shoes been put out to dry! I love the row of colourful clothes & cloth pegs against the brilliant blue sky. Temperature was over 33 degree Celcius!

Pulau Ketam - Fish Farm

I can't resist taking photo of this fury creature who is doing a good job in watching over the farm!

It was fortunate for us as our ferry stopped by a fish farm for us to visit. This happened because we have a group of tourist aboard. This trip would cost one RM60 for a boat to take you to the fish farm. Fishes reared in this fish farm are exported to restaurants in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Air-Conditioned Ferry to Pulau Ketam

This is the air-conditioned ferry that takes passenger to Pulau Ketam from Port Klang. Similar to the open-air ferry that I took, it costs RM7 for a one-way trip.

As you can see here, many daily groceries are delivered from mainland to the island. The main diet of residents in Pulau Ketam are harvests from the sea. Seafood restaurants are in aplenty there.

The Cheapest Ride to Indonesia

At Port Klang's jetty, I found another alternative mode of transport to go to our neighbouring country, Indonesia. This brightly painted ferry claimed it is the cheapest mode to go to Indonesia. I am not sure how much it cost. I could see many Indonesian going back home and carrying big boxes and bags. Some of the people at the jetty told me that with the amount of luggages that they take, this ferry is more cost-effective. If they were to take a flight, they can't carry so much with them or they may have to pay a huge sum for their excess baggages.

While having breakfast at a coffee stall at Port Klang's jetty, I met this little girl enjoying her iced tea.

Outing to Pulau Ketam

On Friday nite, I read an article in The Star paper on Pulau Ketam and that triggered the plan to take a trip to this island.

My journey began with a 40-mins train ride from Subang Jaya Commuter Station to Port Klang. At Port Klang, I had my coffee and "loh mai kai" (glutinuous rice with chicken) before I hop onto a ferry for a 45-mins ride to the island. Fortunately my ferry carried a group of tourists and thus it actually stopped by a fish farm for a short visit before we proceed with our journey to Pulau Ketam. On this trip, I took many photos for our Skywatch Friday theme! The weather was good and clouds were cottony white and very friendly towards me. It was a fabulous day for an outdoor outing. I was elated as I prepared to leave my house that morning that I forgot to put on sunblock.

By the end of the day, my shoulders were red as lobster and today they were raw and painful. But it was a worthwhile outing and I am glad to share those photos with all of you in my next few postings.

The above photo was taken on the ferry ride to Pulau Ketam. From the bright contrast, you would be able to gauge the sun was out to play too. I took the non-air-conditioned ferry as it would give me more photo shooting opportunities. I like both the colour and black & white photos.
