SkyWatch Friday - Eye On Malaysia in Melaka

The Eye On Malaysia that was previously located in Lake Titiwangsa has been moved down to my hometown, Melaka. It was launched on last Friday evening. I went down to the site to take some photos of sunrise on Sunday morning. Glad to share them here with all of you for Sky Watch Friday. The new location for Eye On Malaysia is in Kota Laksamana, Melaka. The site is not completed yet. There is a plan to build a marina just next to it. It would be a beautiful tourist spot as many new tourist attractions are added here to make it more convenient to reach the location.

I am truly proud of the efforts that Malaccan Tourism department is putting into making my small hometown more attractive for tourists.

Sky Watch Fri - Urban Lanscape

I just saw this photo in my archive and love it. I like the orange tinge on the horizon that is caused by the sunrise. Sadly, one cannot capture similar photo like this in Lake Titiwangsa again. Reason being the Eye on Malaysia (EoM) has been moved to my hometown, Melaka. It's good news too because now I can see EoM every month when I go home. :o)

Walking Tall 2008

My friends and I had a great time waking up early this morning to drive to Lake Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur to join the 3-km Walking Tall, a charity event organized to support Cervical Cancer Awareness effort by the Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society of Malaysia. It's also an event organized in conjunction with this year's International Women Day celebration, which fell on 3rd March.

Apart from the walk, there was an exhibition held together with health check. From the exhibition, we learnt that cervical cancer is a burden affecting many women in the world. Every year about 500,000 new cases of cervical cancer occur, of which approximately 270,000 will lead to death. Vaccination and Pap Smear are two steps that one can take for prevention from this cancer.

In addition to gaining new insight of this illness, we had the chance to enjoy the early morning fresh air and the beautiful lake Titiwangsa that came with the panoramic view of KL skyline! In fact, you can see the Eye of Malaysia (the equivalent of London Eye and Singapore Flyer) in one of the photos.

During the recent Walking Tall 2008 to create awareness of Cervical Cancer & it prevention, we had the opportunity to stroll around the scenic Lake Titiwangsa where the event was held. It was a bright, warm, fresh Sunday morning. Amazingly many KL-ites were already awake and many activities were ongoing around the lake. For instance, there were family outings, group line dancing, children cycling, roller blading, taekwan do class and mere people-watching on-going all around the lake! This is the scene that I caught around the lake area!

Breast Cancer Awareness Walk

My neighbours, friends and I happily woke up early today to take part in the AVON Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer at Lake Titiwangsa. This 3-km fun walk is part of a global series of Walk Around the World events, that is specifically designed to focus on raising awareness on breast cancer and to raise funds for the cause. PRIDE Foundation is the beneficiary of this event.

PRIDE Foundation (Pink Ribbon Deeds) is a charity body in Malaysia that aims to enhance awareness efforts and improve accessibility to treatment and care of breast cancer at all levels of society.

By being a part of this event, PRIDE is able to continue in its commitment to raise the awareness level on breast cancer among more Malaysians. PRIDE has pledged that all proceeds raised from this walk will go towards its Prostheses Bra fund.

This fund is specifically catering for women who have undergone mastectomy or radical lumpectomy. Breast cancer survivors or patients need the prostheses bras for health, self- esteem and aesthetic reasons. Usage of the prostheses bra will prevent future abnormalities and complications to spine, posture and movements to shoulders and arms.

Saw this garbage truck ahead of me and this guy seated at the edge of the truck was reading a flyer as the truck moved! It just shows that one can do reading anywhere, irregardless of location!

Theme Day: Dec 08 - Circles or Spheres - Eye on Malaysia

A peaceful morning at the Eye on Malaysia's old site, Lake Titiwangsa, would fit Dec's theme of Circles or Spheres. The reflection on the water form the plural entity of the Eye On Malaysia to fit today's theme.

As I reflect on the scene here, it is so peaceful and calm. But when I recall the news on today's frontpage regarding the terror attack in Mumbai, India and protests ongoing in Bangkok, Thailand, I can't seem to be calm. It makes me worry what is happening to our world. Why would people kill one another? Why is there so much of unrest and anger? Isn't there a better way to resolve differences? I wish that calm and peace would come to Mumbai and Bangkok.

My prayer for the people in Mumbai to be strong and calm as they deal with their losses and lives after this terror. And may there be a peaceful end to the unrest in Thailand. May the world has more love for one another.

Serene Dawn for Father & Son

At daybreak on a Sunday morning, I saw a father with his son sitting by Lake Titiwangsa, enjoying the serenity of their surrounding and watching the beauty of the sky at dawn, and the reflection of the Eye on Malaysia ferris wheel on the water. What a wonderful time spent together!

It makes me miss my late Dad and I wish if I could spend another day with him again.

Reading Theme Continues

I will continue with the "Reading" theme today. Caught this man reading the Sunday paper at the Lake Titiwangsa Park. In the background is the Eye on Malaysia ferris wheel. This ferris wheel ended its operations on 31st August and will be dismantled and moved to my hometown in Melaka. It's a landmark in the park and I am surprised that its lifespan here only lasted less than 3 years, if I am not mistaken.
